A group of Filipinos

Hinabing Gunita (Woven Memories)

HINABING GUNITA chronicles the emergence of the Filipino community and its gradual recognition within multicultural Britain. Long regarded as an ‘invisible’ minority, Filipinos have been arriving in the UK for several generations. In their own words, individuals recount the pain of leaving home, their fears and uncertainties, the many struggles faced and ultimately our triumph as a community. This is a book that records some of the stories of an exodus that began thirty years ago and which continues to this day; the incredible journeys made by Filipinos and their no less extraordinary experiences of life here. This book is the result of a two year project funded by the Basic Skills Agency. Courses in Photography, Creative Writing and Desktop Publishing were offered so that participants (over a hundred) could be actively involved in contributing and being part of the production of the book. The editors are: Carmila Legarda Alcantara, Maria ‘Speedy’ Gonzalez, Candy Quimpo Gourlay, Ed Maranan and Jamie Tapales Oakes. £6.00 + £2.50 p&p Click to view larger versionClick to view larger version
